The filming of Deadpool 2 has been moving smoothly, thus far. However, in a tragic turn of events, stuntwoman Joi “SJ” Harris lost her life in a stunt that went wrong.

It is even more unfortunate that this was Harris’ first film as a stunt performer.

As reported by comicbook.comeye witnesses claim that the stunt performers had rehearsed the stunt many times before filming, but on the last take Harris lost control of her motorcycle and crashed into a plate glass window. Harris was not wearing a helmet in the scene because the character she was doing the stunts for, Zazie Beetz’ Domino, does not wear a helmet in this sequence.

Deadpool 2 production has since been suspended until further notice.

In a statement, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch said:

I’m deeply saddened by the loss of one of our stunt performers today. No words can express how I and the rest of the Deadpool 2 crew feel about this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time.

Ryan Reynolds also took to twitter:

Deadpool 2 is scheduled to hit cinemas 1 June 2018.
