The life-size RX-0 Unicorn Gundam statue outside of DiverCity Tokyo is almost ready for its grand debut!
Some time back images surfaced of the Unicorn Gundam in its various states of construction, complete with videos of certain parts of the statue’s movement being demonstrated.
The statue’s debut will include a public demonstration of its “transformation” feature on 24 September, and like its anime counterpart in the Mobile Suit Gundam UC anime, it will be able to transform between its regular Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode. This will involve moving panels and other parts in over 50 locations on the statue’s body including the knees, shoulders, and back. Honestly, that sounds pretty frecking amazing.
This video will give you an idea of what the transformation looks like:
Like the previous RX-78-2 Gundam statue, the accompanying Wall-G presentation setup will project videos on the outer wall of DiverCity Tokyo behind the statue. Of course, no opening is complete without merch and a new Gundam goods shop will be opening on the same day.
For those who want photos, there will be a dedicated photo deck also opening. If you can’t go, you can still grab Bandai Namco’s smartphone camera app which will use augmented reality to overlay a rendering of the statue in your image.
