You’ll be surprised to hear how big some people’s dreams can be, especially Jonathan Wilson and his team. For they have launched a rather ambitious project for crowdfunding on IndieGoGo, a proposed project to build a fully functioning Minas Tirith, the capital of Gondor form the Lord of the Rings series.
Born form their love of the Tolkien’s books and Peter Jackson’s movies, Jonathan and his team are a group which includes architects and structural engineers and have turned to crowdfunding to help create this massive project. The project will not only build a full sized replica of the city but also will have it fully functional with residential districts and commercial areas for sale and rent.
However, with big dreams comes big obstacles, and they have yet to surpass the very first obstacle. The project will need a total of 1.85 billion British Pounds (roughly RM 11.77 billion) and while they already have over a thousand backers to the project, it is unlikely that they will reach their goal in the next 47 days as the total amount of money backed hasn’t even, at the time of this article, reached 1%. Should the project be fully funded, the city is set to open in 2023.
It could be possible for the project to be fully backed but it would take a lot of effort, some changes to their Backer’s Perks and some deals with Corporations with their proposed commercial areas. But I think even I would just walk away if I see a Starbucks in Minas Tirith, no matter how cleverly disguised.
