Odin Sphere is going HD, will debut as Odin Sphere Leiftrasir

Odinsphere leafrasir

One of the most beautiful games to ever grace the PS2 is getting a HD remake. Named Odin Sphere : Leiftrasir, the sidescroller will let you revisit the game that we know and love in HD, with some extra goodies on the side.

The game will still employ the same 2D scrolling gameplay but with some tweaks and new enemies and bosses. For those who prefer the original gameplay, there will be a “Classic Mode” for the more die hard fans to enjoy.

Leiftrasir will be hitting the PS3, PS4 and the PlayStation Vita come next January in Japan. No word of whether or not there will be an international release but we really hope we get one. In the mean time, check out the trailer below!

NBC is making a modern reboot for Xena : Warrior Princess

xena warrior princess

Seems we are in for a lot of reboots, what with producers capitalizing on the current generation’s feel for nostalgia.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC is currently working on a revival for popular 90’s fantasy series Xena: Warrior Princess. The series is supposedly in its very early development phases but so far it can be confirmed that the series would be a modern reboot, much like that of the all female leads of the new Ghostbusters movie. However, it can’t be too bad since the original show’s producers, Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are on the project.

For those who remember, Xena: Warrior Princess is a spinoff of Hercules : The Legendary Journeys which came to be in 1995.

But how exactly are they going to handle the reboot is uncertain considering Xena died in the final episode of the series, but actress Lucy Lawless (who is famous for her portrayal of Xena) has been campaigning for the show’s return for quite some time now, since its finale in 2001. She even confirmed that she was “pitching her ass off” to make the reboot happen, as she told HitFix during the San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks back.

We personally would be delighted to know if the series will indeed be returning in its full glory, chakrams and all.

Check out these pieces of beautiful concept art from Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Check these new bits of awesome concept art by Frédéric Bennett from Eidos Montreal. This is his work for the next chapter of Deus Ex game, Mankind Divided, which we can barely wait to go live.

Feel free to click on the images for bigger resolution.

The artist also worked on titles like Wet, Age of Conan and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

The game is expected to be released next year and players can expect to reprise the role as Adam Jensen again. This time, the story is set in Prague, the capital city of Czech Republic in year of 2029,  two years after events in Human Revolution.

The plot is pretty straightforward, Adam is working with an international group to stop terrorist attacks. Humans are more hostile to augmentations thanks to the Panchea incident where augmented individuals started to attack natural humans mindlessly. This isn’t helping the case of the Augs when the Illuminati (no, not the same Illuminati that you’re thinking of) are scheming something big in the background.  The hero must confront the terrorists and a shadowy group who are behind the events in past two years and controlling his very own organization.

The game will be released for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The one OAD/OVA special focuses on the protagonist Ryo Sheba, who decides to propose to main heroine Kaori Makimura after years and years of him flirting around with so many beautiful ladies in his course of “work”. Because of that, Kaori has to constantly keep him off the ladies due to jealousy or the fact that he is simply too horny to control himself.

Old fans might be heartened with the news that the four original main voice cast – Akira Kamiya (Ryo Sheba), Kazue Ikura (Kaori Makimura), Yoko Asagami (Saeko Nogami) and Tessho Genda (Umibozu) will be back to reprise their roles for this special episode.

Street Fighter V now has a 16 character roster and a new challenger – the feral Necalli

Capcom confirmed there will be sixteen fighters in the new Street Fighter V game with four completely new characters.

Perhaps in lieu of numerous criticisms of the Street Fighter IV, the company announced that players will get balance updates and system adjustments for free, plus players can pick up DLC characters just by playing the game. According to Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas in his post at the PlayStation blog:

Street Fighter 5 will be the first iteration in the franchise where it is possible for dedicated players to earn all gameplay related content (such as characters) for free, simply by playing the game,” Rosas said. “Long gone are the days of forced Super and Ultra upgrades! Enjoy free balance updates as soon as they become available, and find and choose the post-launch characters that you want to get.

That also means the players will only need the initial release disc of the game. Rosas also named seven characters in the post – Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Charlie Nash, M.Bison, Birdie and Cammy. He said that Capcom plans to issue more frequent updates to keep the game fresh with better replayability. At the moment, game features two types of in-game currency – Zenny and Fight Money. Fight Money can be obtained by simply playing the game whereas Zenny can be purchased with real-world money. Both can be used to buy new content such as new characters.

Meanwhile, during EVO 2015, the company showed off a new unique character, Necalli. The fighter sports wild looking hairdo and relies on grappling as his modus operandi. From what we can see, his arsenal includes grabs, dive kicks and fast claw slashes while his V mode triggers the full power of his insane flowing locks. Shades of Satsui no Hado?

Anyway, the game is set for a release next year and the company will be rolling out the betas soon worldwide.

Nintendo releases Genyo Takeda’s tribute to Satoru Iwata

During the funeral service for the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the company’s senior managing director and current co-representative director Genyo Takeda delivered a memorial address for his former colleague. To put it short, he pledged to uphold Iwata’s legacy.

Takeda is a 66 year old game designer, credited as the man who created the first game title for Nintendo by Shigeru Miyamoto. The game is called EVR Race. He is also the creator of Punch-Out!, the famous boxing game that was massively popular few decades ago. Not only that, he developed the technology that allows players to save up their game progress and one of the principal brains behind the development of the Wii.

Image: Ariel Zambelic / Wired

Here is the translated transcript of his memorial address released by Nintendo:

As we gather here today for a joint funeral with Nintendo Co., Ltd. and Mr. Iwata’s family, I would like to share my heartfelt condolences. President Iwata, allow me to call you Iwata-san, just as I always used to. Iwata-san, you left us far too soon. Having just chaired our shareholders’ meeting the other day on June 26, the news of your sudden death has left all the employees overcome with a deep sorrow. The late Yamauchi-san passed the baton to you in naming you the president of Nintendo in 2002, and the two Senior Managing Directors of the company, Shigeru Miyamoto and I, have been assisting and working alongside you. Being rather short-tempered myself, the thing that I am most deeply struck by is that you were a true leader in every sense of the word, overflowing with compassion for people. You always maintained a two-way dialogue, even with the next generation of employees, or with much younger members of the development and marketing teams, or with employees outside of Japan whose different customs and cultures can make communication challenging — sometimes even admitting your own mistakes to them. You demonstrated this through your belief that people could eventually come to understand one another, and your strong conviction that the best way for us to grow is through patient communication, even if it took several times, a dozen times or even seemingly endless discussion.

You succeeded in planting the seed in employees’ hearts that, in order to solve an issue, there is a fundamental cycle whereby you make a hypothesis, execute the plan, see the result and then make adjustments, and by which you have caringly nurtured these seeds to sprout and mature into plants. Until now, our successors and the younger generation would take a few first steps and then look back at you for guidance because they could not tell if they had chosen the right path. Today they cannot ask for your guidance anymore.

However, I am sure that they have already made the firm determination that they will continue on their own, making the hypothesis, executing the plan, seeing the results and reflecting on the results to improve and adjust by themselves. In the face of your unbelievable passing it will surely take some time before we can emerge from this deep sorrow. Please know, however, that the seeds you have planted, and the plants that have sprouted will put forth small flowers as they bring smiles to the faces of people around the world, blossom into a grand flower bigger than even you, our leader, Iwata-san. Together with Miyamoto and others of our generation, we swear in our hearts that we will continue our efforts so that, someday, we can report and present to you the blossoming of these flowers. May you continuously watch over and guide us managers, our employees and your family.

On behalf of all of us, I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences and sincerest prayer. May you rest in peace, Iwata-san.”

Have the latest promo videos and TV spots for Fantastic Four

I am looking at you…

We finally have some new material for the new Fantastic Four movie directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle) with new TV spots and featurettes.

We can see that the makers are trying to appeal and connect to the audience at the personal level with the stars talking about what makes the movie different from its predecessors. Kate Mara thinks the more human and grounded qualities will make the audience empathize more with the film. The crew also talks more on the background of the film; they’re the chosen to attend a special school for gifted people and this is where they cracked the inter-dimensional time travel riddle.

Official synopsis:

Fantastic Four,” a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

We also get to see Dr. Doom in more detail in the latest TV spot, learning that the quartet were locked up after they awaken with superhuman powers. Sue makes a plea that they are not the ones that the humans should fear. Then it cuts to Toby Kebbell’s Dr. Doom doing his thing.

New images for X-Men: Apocalypse shows our villain in the flesh

EW released a slew of latest images for the upcoming X-Men movie and now we have some idea on how the movie version of Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) looks like. There have been jokes online about how much Apocalypse looks like Ivan Ooze, a villain from the Power Rangers movie, due to the design and his inherent purple colour in the still.

At the same time, we also have a glimpse on how geek girl icon Olivia Munn (Mortdecai, Magic Mike) looks like as Psylocke and Alexandra Shipp (House of Anubis) sporting the 80’s X-Men mohawk hair for her role as Storm. From the photos, we can sort of guess that Magneto (Micheal Fassbender) did not have much of a good time after the events in the last X-Men movie, Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) working alongside Quicksilver (Evan Peters) in the X-Jet and Professor X (James McAvoy) in the new Cerebro with his old friends, Mystique and Moira Mactarggert (Rose Byrne).

As a bonus, enjoy this photoshoot of the entire Marvel Cinematic gang from X-men: Apocalypse, Deadpool, Fantastic Four and Gambit.
