Tom Clancy’s The Division has been delayed to next year

Tom Clancy’s The Division has been confirmed to be delayed to next year as revealed in Ubisoft’s financial earnings call not long ago.

According to the updated information, the game will rescheduled to Q4 of the financial year of 2016 which means around January to March. “It is never an easy decision to move launch dates, but we are committed to make decisions that will benefit the players,” said CEO Yves Guillemot. “As I said in my introduction, this is our most important driver as it has always benefitted the company in the long run.”

Interestingly, there is “another triple-A title” in the lineup besides The Division but Ubisoft CEO is keeping mum about it.

The game was announced in E3 2013, touted as open world role playing game which was supposed to be launched on the PS4, PC and Xbox One this year. It is known that the developer summoned additional help from the team behind Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell multiplayer, Ubisoft Annecy. Which means could be trouble or they need to speed up the timetable for the game development.

Those games take more time to be completed. We want to make sure we have enough feedback from consumers from alpha and betas to polish it as much as possible before the launch so it comes to the market with the best experience possible. We expect less sales in the financial year than if it would have been launched in the Christmas season, but over the whole, we expect as much sales over its lifespan.” Guillemot commented.

Sure as heck it is a big bummer about the delay so guess we have to console ourselves watching this gameplay videos while waiting for the real thing to come.

Luc Besson is doing Valerian

The teaser poster

Luc Besson, known for his influential movies like The Fifth Element and Leon The Professional announced an intention to adapt the iconic French sci-fi graphic novel series, Valerian. The European flavoured graphic novel series born in 1967, is the old school science fiction wrote by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières during the height of flower child era which just escaped the fears of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Cara Delevingme who is in the Suicide Squad will be the main stars as tweeted by Besson.

Both stars will playing the roles of Valerian and Laureline in the film which focuses on two spatio-temporal agents who is tasked to defend the utopian Earth and its neighbouring planets from evil forces in the 28th century. The plot is heavily characterized with space opera flavour and time traveling themes, pretty close to Luc Besson’s own sci-fi film, The Fifth Element.Hopefully this will mean the same whimsical yet visionary style of storytelling by the man too.

Virginie Besson Silla will produce the movie while the funding, production and distribution are handled by EuropaCorp. The movie is expected to hit the cinemas in summer of 2017 if everything goes according to the plan. Previously the director did an animated feature on Valerian called Time Jam: Valerian and Laureline with the help of Satelight Studio (Macross Frontier, Aquarion) back in 2007.

Watch the live action trailer for Jem and the Holograms ruin your childhood

The band itself
The band itself

Remember the old 80’s cartoon series, Jem and the Holograms?

Who wouldn’t remember those bright neon costumes and music video in every single episode. Can’t recall? lets see if the theme song jogs your memory:

Earlier we were teased with some movie stills of the upcoming film and we have just gotten a hold of the trailer for the movie and it’s hardly what we bargained for. Simply fabulous and outrageous, right?

Directed by Jon M.Chu (Justin Bieber’s : Never Say Never), the man who popularized the Step Up movies, remarked about his focus for this movie, “It’s actually about a group of young people who are going to be inundated with this idea of fame and fortune and products and stuff, and within all that, how do you stay true to who you really are? That’s the real soul of the movie.” Another point that the director is trying to highlight in this movie is about how will Jerrica be able to hide her secret identity in the age of social media such as Twitter and Facebook.

However we have to point out that the movie in no way resembles the original series that it is based on, with the tiny exception that it’s about music and Jerrica looks slightly like her original counterpart. The original Jem wasn’t some youngster who suddenly found fame via YouTube, but actually owned her own studio and of course the titular hologram Synergy which pretty much made it possible to hide her identity. So how is Synergy going to fit in all this and where are the Misfits? Is Jerrica’s only demons in this movie her own?

Whatever it is that triggered such a huge change in backstory in order to make it “relevant” has gotten older fans of the franchise in a literal uproar because it’s hardly anything like we remember (ruined childhoods incoming). We can only hope that they are still hiding in the film somewhere at the very least.

Written by Ryan Landels , this live action adaptation will “shine” on 23 October 2015. Starring Aubrey Peeples as Jem aka Jerrica Benton, Stefanie Scot as Kimber Benton, Hayley Kiyoko as Aja Leith, Aurora Perrineau as Shana Elmsford and Ryan Guzman as Rio Pacheco the band’s manager/ love interest for the female lead.

Besides this, there are rumours that Hasbro (who owns the franchise) also trying to push for My Little Pony live action adaptation too. Now THAT is outrageous.

New info on mysterious anime series Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace

Visual key
Visual key

Frustrating to say the least that so little is known about the upcoming Noitamina’s anime Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace/乱歩奇譚 Game of Laplace since it is announced back in November 2014 during a conference. Finally , we have some clue as to what the series is all about now.

First, the series is scheduled for July 2015 lineup for Fuji TV.

The series is to commemorate the 50th death anniversary of Japanese most beloved detective fiction writer, Edogawa Ranpo. What is remarkable that several big names like director Seiji Kishi (Angel Beats!, Assassination Classroom) and scriber Makoto Ueza (Utawarerumono , Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru ) is taking on this project, a testament on how serious or big this project will be. Not to mention, the up and coming Studio Lerche (Assassination Classroom, Danganropa: Animation) is in for the ride too.

We also have the names of three main characters from the visual key preview – Kobayashi, Akechi and Hashiba. However, that’s it. Some fans have commented that the characters are quite different from the usual novelist style of characterizations and the timeline of the story updated from a more classical era to modern times. Now it is interesting to see how the production team will adapt the whimsical worldview of Edogawa Ranpo into this series too. As for now, information on this is limited but the production team promises that more will come soon via their Twitter and official site.

The combo that produces smash hit series like Danganropa: Animation and Assassination Classroom might be the answer to adapt the seemingly impossible subject matter into another popular anime series. Or maybe not.

Time will tell.

Ubisoft announces Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Victorian London awaits.

ACS-media-SS-4-big_202195

The next Assassin’s Creed has finally been announced and has been confirmed to be named Syndicate and wil be indeed taking place in Victorian London in 1868 and will star the brother sister duo of Jacob and Evie Fyre.

The duo run their own criminal gang and are intent to take back London the only way they know how. Assassin style. While only pre-alpha gameplay footage is available at the moment, on top of the debut trailer and a preview of Jacob’s weapons, the game is already looking very good despite still being slightly rough around the edges.

So far it has been confirmed that you actually do get to play as female assassin but there will be a healthy scattering of female foes from bosses to basic grunts. Sadly there will be no multiplayer but the game does support a kind of mob recruitment mechanic that lets you get into big street brawls with allies very similar to that from previous games in the series.

ACS-media-SS-2-big_202191

There will also be the chance to hijack, ride and fight on the tops of carriages as well as emphasis on the use of the Grappling Hook to get around. Ubisoft also says that the stealth system has been given a good tweaking and though we don’t know how they have changed things they say you’ll be spending more time crawling, crouching and manipulating the environment than trying to disappear into a crowd. The game is also bringing back distractions with the whistle, which was not present in Assassin’s Creed: Unity.

Of course, there will be historical figures hidden in the woodwork as is the tradition of Assassin’s Creed and Ubisoft has so far confirmed that Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens will be making an appearance in Syndicate.

Syndicate will also be getting a day-night cycle, which was absent from Unity and is hinted to be following in the footsteps of the same game in terms of story, with more to be revealed come summer.

We also get a little taste of how Jacob will handle combat.

The game will have an October 23rd release for the PS4 and Xbox One while the PC release will be happening later in the Fall with no confirmed release date.

Now isn’t it a bloody marvelous time to be alive?

Mocap for Maz Kanata
Mocap for Maz Kanata

We have all seen the massive behind the scenes look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens thanks to Vanity Fair not long ago. One of the most intriguing pictures is the Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o mocap setup for a character named Maz Kanata, the pirate leader. She has a castle housing a crew that is described as “Galactic travelers, smugglers, and other assorted riffraff..” by the production people. Anyway, Lucasfilm released an official peek just for this particular character.

Eagle eyed fans might spot a brief image in the teaser scene where a character hands over Luke Skywalker father’s lightsaber to Leia. The profile of the face at the top right of the frame could be Maz Kanata.

Maz Kanata

For this movie, the production crew went through a lot of trouble an efforts to use props, puppets, prosthetic and practical effect whenever it is applicable. Now the question here is, will Maz Kanata fully CG or be produced using clever puppetry to achieve the effects? Or maybe both? If this picture is 100 percent true, then it is understandable why the film crew go for mocap in case of Maz Kanata. The fact that they are casting a very talented actress for Maz Kanata will suggest a deep, genuine performance to bring out the character’s full potential.

Lady delivering her love

The game will feature a few additional playable characters – Trish, Vergil and Lady. This will round up the total playable characters in the game to five, which gives players different choices for fighting methods and style. The game developer stressed that the game videos were captured in “Turbo Mode” which increases the game speed by 20 percent. This will surely satisfy any fast action junkie who is in need of speed.

According to Capcom’s description:

Vergil is a strong, yet technical character, so newcomers can play with confidence while seasoned veterans can further sharpen their skills as they master his moves. Great for all skill levels!

Lady, in her first playable appearance, specializes in long-distance, powerful attacks. Using the Kalina Ann rocket launcher, a grappling wire, and a variety of awesome guns, she can fight with grace and ease.

Trish utilizes the demonic sword Sparda to perform a wide variety of combos. The Sparda can even home in on and attack enemies autonomously while Trish fights in tandem!

The game will see a release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in digital mode form for international market whereas Japanese gamers will able to purchase the physical retail version of the game.
