Assassin’s Creed : Syndicate set for official premier on 12 May

The next installment of the extremely popular Assassin’s Creed series will be called Syndicate, and will be set in Victorian London.

The game was very unfortunately leaked last year but the official premier of the game will be rolling up on 12 May 2015 as announced by Ubisoft. This is exciting and not-so-exciting news considering the leak did bust the game wide open (at the time the game was codenamed Assassin’s Creed: Victory) so there’s a chance that the game may not be too different from what we’ve already seen from the leak.

But still, the game looks quite fun with it’s dark gloomy Victorian atmosphere and you get to use a grappling hook as well as fight on moving carriages among other new gameplay mechanics. Maybe they’ll even quietly slip in some steampunk?

The game is slated to appear on the Xbox One, PC and PS4 and there’s also that movie that’s supposed to be in the works, but they haven’t let much on apart from the movie likely to hit cinemas in 2016.

But the big question is, will the game be the same steak and potatoes Assassin’s Creed fans are used to or will it be something totally different altogether?

Agent 13 is up for a mission in Captain America: Civil War

Another character is joining the fight in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, and that’s none other than Emily VanCamp’s Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter and yes, she is related to the Captain’s old flame Agent Carter. The actress who starred in Revenge recently signed up for the film, presumably to help the hero again in time of need.

She is the next star to be confirmed after the announcement of Martin Freeman who has a role that Marvel is keeping mum about. In the previous Captain America movie, Agent 13 with pseudonym of Kate who lived near Steve Rogers had the vital mission of keeping the superhero safe and sound. For now her exact role in Civil War is still under wraps.

Now, the full casting list is Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon. Daniel Bruhl recently confirmed that he’s playing Baron Zemo, however it’s rumoured that the central villain of the film will be Frank Grillo’s Crossbones.

Captain America: Civil War directed by Anthony and Joe Russo hits theaters on May 6, 2016.

Live action Terra Formars movie has found its main star

Hideaki Ito and the role in the next movie

Another big time, live action adaptation gathering steam is Takeshi Mike’s Terra Formars. Based on sci-fi action/satire manga by Yu Sasuga and Kenichi Tachibana which also turned into an anime series last year, the plan was first leaked to the public in February that Mike Takeshi will be directing and now the latest development is they found the main star for the movie.

Hideaki Ito will be playing Shokichi Komachi, the main protagonist, as the actor is a long time collaborator with the director for movies like Sukiyaki Western Django and Lesson of the Evil. The latest work they did together was the 2014 horror flick, Over Your Dead Body or Kuime.

The 39 years old actor’s response when he was asked as to why he took up the role, “At first, the idea of ‘going to Mars’ was just too much, and for a moment I thought about turning it down. But since Miike is directing, and also because the original work is interesting, I really wanted to do it” he continues, “Mike does filming from morning to night, with no time to sleep. He’s an uncompromising director, and thinking about having that kind of schedule again…Honestly, I hate it,” he said with a laugh, “but I’m really looking forward to it.”

The movie will start filming soon this month and expects to be crawling into the cinemas in 2016.

Latest issue of Young Jump announced the staff roll for the upcoming summer anime comedy series of Himouto! Umaru-Chan/干物妹!うまるちゃん or My Two Faced Little Sister! Umaru-Chan by Head Sankaku – the story about a perfect female student on the outside but becomes a completely lazy bum when in private much to her big brother’s exasperation.

Yuruyuri director, Masahiko Ohta will be helming the series whereas scripting done by Takashi Aoshima (Re-Kan!, Yuruyuri). Yasuhiro Misawa (Minami-Ke, Kokoro Connect) is doing music composition with animation production done by Doga Kobo (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, 11eyes). Polar Bear Cafe‘s Aya Takano will be on the character designing gig for this series.

The series should be a light hearted, slice-of-life take with much emphasis on the cuteness of the main character of the story. Series will be arriving on the shores of the moe in July.

After the announcement by CBS two months ago, there has been virtually no news on the latest DC Comics foray into TV-land, Supergirl.

Now we have an update saying the series is coming this fall on CBS after it received the order from the network. No actual date is given though.

The titular role herself will be played by Melissa Benoist (Glee) whereas other confirmed cast is Owain Yeoman as DC’s Vartox, Faran Tahir as The Commander, Jeremy Jordan as Toyman, Dean Cain and Helen Slater starring in unknown capacity, Chyler Leigh as Kara’s sister Alex, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw/Cyborg Superman, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Laura Benanti as Kara’s Kryptonian mother Alura and Mehcad Brooks (True Blood) as an older version of Jimmy Olsen.

Rumours are strong that possibility of appearance of Supergirl’s adopted family, the Danvers as well.

CBS synopsis for the series:

Based on the DC Comics character, the drama tells the story of Kara Zor-El, who was born on the planet Krypton, but escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin Superman. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Producer of Arrow, Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler from No Ordinary Family wrote the script and join together as executive producers with addition of Andrew Kreisberg who is well known for CW superhero production. Now the question is, will this series crossover with others like The Flash and Arrow? CBS head honcho Nina Tassler is being coy about it, stressing that the world of Supergirl will be independent of those two.

New developments for Captain America: Civil War

Something is looming on the horizon for Captain America: Civil War.

First, we have news that Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) will join the jam packed casting list for the next Captain America movie. It is not known in what capacity the actor will be in the movie but many are speculating that he will be portraying a politician or someone important enough to be part of the hero registration act which is the core component of the story.

Producer Kevin Feige remarked, “From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in ‘The Office,’ Martin’s range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us,” he continues, “We couldn’t be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

The official synopsis of the movie from Marvel:

“Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies.”

Second major bit of news is the possible reveal of Tony Stark’s new armour for the movie. Many fans call it the “Bleeding Edge” armor. This version supposedly worn by Tony Stark during the “Heroic Age” of Marvel, series of stories that happens after the crossovers that started the Civil War in the comic story. In the comics, the armour is based on nanobots and is housed inside Tony Stark’s own body instead of external storage like a briefcase etc.

The movie will open on 6 May 2016.

New updates for God Eater anime series

During the presentation of Machi ★ Asobi , the official site of TV series God Eater/ゴッドイーター launched with a new key visual and teaser trailer, introducing an anime-only character; Renka Utsugi who is going to be paired with game character Alisa Illinichina Amiella.

Takayuki Hirao (Kara no Kyokai, Gyo) will be directing the series whereas Tetsuya (Sword Art Online II) is responsible for the character designs with Keita Shimizu (Fate/Zero) doing animation direction. Go Shiina from Gyo will be handling the music score for the series with the OP theme sang by OLDCODEX. The storyline of the series will be based on the first game’s story with some cameos of the characters from second game.

Casting listed on the site are Ryuichi Kijima, Hiroaki Hirata (Black Lagoon, Air Gear), Kazuya Nakai (Blade of the Immortal, Aldnoah Zero), Sayaka Ohara (Aldnoah Zero, Aria the Animation) Daisuke Sakaguchi (Amagi Brilliant Park, Air Master) and veteran Maaya Sakamoto (Blade of the Immortal, Kara no Kyokai). The voice actor, Ryuichi Kijima, who is voicing the new male protagonist got the part after a grueling audition of more than a hundred people. This is a step up for the 30 year old voice actor whose roles tend to be the minor background characters such as Student A in Shokugeki no Soma for example.

The highly anticipated ufotable’s (Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, Fate/Zero) produced series will be aired on 5 July 2015. Expect some crazy monster busting action with dynamic camera works which is hallmark of studio ufotable.

Developer DICE has confirmed the date of release for the long awaited sequel of Mirror’s Edge is in early 2016. During a presentation of financial earnings by publisher Electronic Arts, the title is listed in the release date for first quarter of 2016. Not only that, the game is slated for consoles and PC platforms too.

The developer announced that the game will be for next generation of consoles meaning PS4, Xbox One and PC. They are also promising that the game will “reboot the franchise for the next generation,” and will come up with new origin story for Faith, the heroine of the story.

Last year during E3, EA and DICE talks about their push to focus on the “building blocks” of her and working with real parkour artists to make sure her movement is legit.

“I wanted to let you know that the game is progressing nicely and I think you’re going to love it, I know many of you probably wish we would show more of the game, but we’re still pretty early in development and our passionate core Mirror’s Edge team is working full on to make the best game possible” said senior producer Sara Jansson last year.

The highly acclaimed game launched in 2009 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Besides this, DICE is working on few titles such as Star Wars Battlefront which scheduled for release later this year and a possible new chapter of Battlefield in fourth quarter of 2016.

Batman: Arkham Knight will feature Batgirl in a dedicated story expansion via DLC or developers call it Season Pass.

She will make appearance in the chapter called Batgirl: A Matter of Family according to WB Games official Facebook page. It is described as “an all new prequel story expansion in an entirely new location.”

Batman himself will acquire new mission stories which will be “featuring legendary super-villains,” and “Gotham City Stories” will open up “key allies” of the Dark Knight “in narrative missions extending their storylines,” taking place before and after the events of Arkham Knight. Not forgetting that few characters like Robin, Catwoman and Nightwing will be playable in the main campaign via “dual play” character-switching feature which means players can swap the characters at moment’s notice ala GTA V. However, many players are not too happy with the pricey DLC which WB Games promised that they will provide more information on as to why it is priced that way. “We’ve heard from our community that you want more information on what we’ll be delivering in the Season Pass,” it says on Facebook page. Perhaps the release of Batgirl is an attempt to pacify the angry fans over the pricing of DLC issue (close to US$40 RM130 plus at this moment). For six months after the release of the game, Season Pass owners will have periodic content updates. Some gamers might want to opt for Premium Edition which is priced around US$99.

Other notable features with the season pass are different Batmobiles, represented in 75 years of evolution of it plus the race tracks for the said Batmobiles. More map challenges and character skins for Batman, Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman are included in the DLC too.

The game will be launched on 23 June 2015 for PS4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

Looking at the encouraging Blu-Ray sales of Fumiaki Maruto’s Saekano or in its full name – How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend / Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata/冴えない彼女(ヒロイン)の育てかた , it did not come as a surprise when the sequel got announced at the official site without much fanfare.

However, the entry did not say when or in what form (TV series, movie or OVA/OAD) the sequel will come. The series have 7 volumes of light novels and 1 short story, so there is plenty of material for the sequel for sure.

To assuage the feeling of waiting, perhaps fans can console themselves with the PS Vita game?
