Eurogamer recently reported that the SNES mini (or the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System) has been set to hit the market around Christmas this year, with development already underway.
For those not in the know, the NES was a tremendous success, with Nintendo shipping 1.5 million units of the console by January this year, much more than they expected to be selling.
The SNES mini is likely to have the same format as the NES mini, featuring a bunch of games that were popular on the console during its heyday, like Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World and Earthbound (maybe some Final Fantasy games too?), with a similar plug-and-play type setup.
Personally, there’s a lot more things I’d like to play on the SNES rather than the NES, so when it does come out I’m hoping to get a lot more mileage out of it than I did the NES, where I ended up just playing Kirby and nothing much else. Hopefully, pricing details will be released soon.
