We’re just a few days away from one of the biggest movie events of the year, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Spider-Man is arguably the third most popular comic book character of all time, after DC’s Batman and Superman.

Everyone is familiar with some incarnations of our friendly neighbourhood superhero played by the likes of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. But what if I told you someone else played Spider-Man in the late 70s? In this article, we’ll take a look at all the actors (and voice actors) who have played Spider-Man.

1. Ted Schwartz

Let’s go back all the way to 1981. The Spider-Man 1981 TV series marked the official launch of Marvel Productions – previously known as DePatie Freleng Enterprises – who had previously created the 1979 version of Spider-Woman animated series, in which Spider-Man cameoed.

Ted Schwartz voiced the web-slinger in the 1981 version of this character. Prior to Spider-Man, Schwartz provided additional voices in the Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo TV series. However, Spider-Man served as his relative big break as he went on to voice the character of Rodimus Prime in The Transformers animated series and also Thrasher, in the G.I. Joe animated series.
