Fall 2017 is here and we’ve got a lot of anime heading our way. Plenty of anime fans would, of course, be anticipating some new series to follow but there’s also plenty of us just itching to catch the new seasons and sequels of our favourite anime.

With that in mind, we’ve listed down all the anime that’ll be returning for the Fall 2017 season together with their broadcast dates (in Japan at least)

So take note and start planning your anime viewing time for the season!

11 Gintama: Porori Arc

Looks like 2017 is Gintama’s year. Not only has the live-action movie been released, the new anime season will also be coming out this Fall 2017 season.

It picks off the end of the Battle on Rakuyo Arc that ended back in March this year and heads into the Porori arc that has already come out in the manga

22 3gatsu no Lion (March Comes in Like a Lion) Season 2

 

The story of the 3gatsu no Lion follows Rei, a solitary player of shōgi and his relationships with a neighbouring family. He becomes acquainted with Akari, and two young girls, Hinata and Momo, who also have a large number of cats.

The first season ended its run earlier this year on March 18 after a 22 episode run and the second season is expected to pick up where the first season left off with an expected 22 episode run as well.

33 Kekkai Sensen Season 2

 

A breach between Earth and the nether worlds has opened up over the city of New York, trapping New Yorkers and creatures from other dimensions in an impenetrable bubble.

They’ve lived together for years, in a world of crazy crime sci-fi sensibilities. Now someone is threatening to sever the bubble, and a group of stylish superhumans is working to keep it from happening.

The second season of Kekkai Sensen will see studio BONES once again animating the series. This time however, a new director,  Shigehito Takayanagi (Galaxy Angel A, The World God Only Knows, Dagashi Kashi) and series compositor,  Yasuko Kamo (Dagashi Kashi) have taken over so let us hope its going to continue to be as action packed as before.

3. Kekkai Sensen Season 2

44 Shokugeki no Soma! San no Sara

Sōma Yukihira is back once more to tantalise all anime fan’s taste buds in the third season of Shokugeki no Soma. This time he has to go up against the Elite 10 Council but also against Azami Nakiri, Erina’s father, who has taken over the Totsuki.

The new season will once again be produced by J.C Staff with cast and crew returning, with one exception. Voice actress Risa Taneda will not reprise her role as Erina and will be replaced by Hisako Kanemoto. Will this bring any change to the anime?

4. Shokugeki no Soma! San no Sara

55 UQ Holder! Mahou Sensei Negima! Season 2

UQ Holder! is the spin-off anime of Ken Akamatsu’s Negima! Magister Negi Magi manga/anime, and takes place years after the latter. It centres on Touta, the grandson of Negi and follows his adventures as to climb to the top of the space elevator and make a name for himself.

While most of the anime listed here are sequels for anime TV series, it seems UQ Holder! will instead be a follow up to the Original Animated Disc (OAD) that was recently released.

5. UQ Holder! Mahou Sensei Negima! Season 2

66 Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter

Green Leaves Entertainment is a tiny production company on the verge of going out of business in Sendai, the biggest city in Japan’s northeastern Tohoku region. The agency once managed the careers of magicians, photo idols, fortune-tellers, and other entertainers, but its last remaining client finally quit.

In danger of having zero talent (literally), the president Tange hatches an idea of producing an idol group. On the brash president’s orders, the dissatisfied manager Matsuda heads out to scout raw talent.

First premiering in September 2014 and ending its 12 episode run in February 2015, it’s been two years since Wake Up, Girls! has had an anime broadcast. Finally, they’ve gotten a second season so let’s see if this time it’ll be better.

6. Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter

77 Love Live! Sunshine!! 2nd Season

The girls of Uranohoshi Girls’ High School are swept into idol fever, wanting nothing more than to become the next-best School Idol group. And they plan to do just that. Chika Takami brings together eight of her classmates to form Aqours, their own idol group.

This spin-off to the popular Love Live anime series has finally gotten its second season. With the first season of the anime ending in September 2016, it’s about time we got the continuation of this anime for this year and hopefully, it brings back the whole “user-participation” concept back as well.

7. Love Live! Sunshine!! 2nd Season

88 Love Rice 2nd Season

At the Kokuritsu Inaho Academy, five new rice-inspired students attempt to supplant bread as the popular grain at the school. The new students form the “Love Rice” unit and challenge themselves to perform at the “Harvest Show” to show the delicious appeal of rice grains.

They’ve anthropomorphised everything from battleships, swords to tanks. So there’s no surprise that Japan would anthropomorphise rice as well. Considering the subject matter, the fact that this anime has gotten a second season goes to show that we won’t be seeing any

8. Love Rice 2nd Season

99 Himouto! Umaru-chan R

Umaru is Taihei’s little sister who boasts beautiful looks as well as prowess in both school and sports. However, she has a certain secret. She’s a “Himōto” a little sister who is proper in public but lazy at home.

The last time we saw Umaru-chan on tv was back in 2015 when the first season of the anime premiered. After a year of absence, we finally get to see her Himoto antics once again.

The main staff is returning from the first season, including the anime studio Doga Kobo, director Masahiko Ohta, series script supervisor Takashi Aoshima, and character designer Aya Takano.

That’s not all. We’ll also be seeing the return of the whole cast return with; Aimi Tanaka as Umaru Doma, Kenji Nojima as Taihei Doma, Akari Kageyama as Nana Ebina, Haruka Shiraishi as Kirie Motoba, and Yurina Furukawa as Sylphynford Tachibana.

9. Himouto! Umaru-chan R

1010 Hozuki No Reitetsu 2nd Season

Hōzuki is the aide to the great king of Hell, King Enma. Calm and super-sadistic, Hōzuki tries to resolve the various problems in Hell, including a rampaging Momotarō and his companions. However, he also likes spending his free time on his hobbies, such as fawning over cute animals and raising “Goldfish Flowers.”

The second season of this supernatural comedy, also known as Hozuki’s Coolheadedness is set for an October 7 release and this time there’s been a couple of changes to the production team with Studio DEEN taking over from Wit Studio to.  Jirō Omatsuri is replacing Hirotaka Katō as

That’s not all, Jirō Omatsuri will be replacing Hirotaka Katō as the character designer in the second season, though Midori Gotou is again writing the scripts and TOMISIRO is again composing the music.

Hopefully, we’ll still be equally entertained by Hozuki and the rest of the underworlds antics despite the change.

10. Hozuki No Reitetsu 2nd Season

1111 ClassicaLoid 2nd Season

High school students Kanae and Sōsuke live in a provincial town that is trying to revitalize itself with music. One day, suddenly “Classicaloid” versions of Beethoven and Mozart appear in front of Kanae and Sōsuke.

When the suspicious-looking Classicaloids play music they call “mujik,” it has a strange power: stars start to fall, and giant robots appear. Now every day is tumultuous. Eventually, more Classicaloids start to appear such as Bach, Chopin, and Schubert.

With the first season/series ending back in April, the musical comedy anime will once again see us reunited with the “Classicaloid” version of great composers. Expect more awesome music and laughs in the second season and maybe we might even be able to learn some appreciation of the classics along the way

11. ClassicaLoid 2nd Season

1212 Time Bokan: Gyakushū no San-Okunin

Time Bokan has a long history, first premiering all the way in 1975. Since then, it’s seen a bunch of remakes with the latest called Time Bokan 24 that started in October 2016 and ended in March 2017.

A second season of the latest remake is now coming out in October and as its title says, Time Bokan: Gyakushū no San-Okunin (Time Bokan Three Bad Guys’ Counterattack), instead of focusing on the main character, it will instead focus on the anime’s three villains as they try to take over as main characters.

12. Time Bokan: Gyakushū no San-Okunin

1313 Osomatsu-san 2nd Season

Matsuno household has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets), led by the eldest Osomatsu. They were grade schoolers back in the Shōwa period, but despite still living in the same old household, the street view, as well as the lifestyle of modern day society, have changed drastically.

The Osomatu boys are back for a second season, and you can expect a whole lot more of laughs this time around. No surprise that the anime gets itself a renewal for a new season considering we’ve listed it as one of our 10 funniest anime to watch.

With the first season director, Yoichi Fujita, together with the first season script supervisor and scriptwriter, Shū Matsubara returning for the second season, there’s no doubt that Osomatsu-san will continue to tickle our funny bones and more.

13. Osomatsu-san 2nd Season

1414 Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru 2nd Season

Follow the adventures Yuki Yuna and the “Hero Club” she joins as they aim to do their best for the community they live in, ranging from helping other clubs to fighting off mysterious enemies known as “Vertex”, all in time to attend classes and have fun.

With the second season of the anime premiering this October, we’ll be seeing it split into two parts,  Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru: Washio Sumi no Shō and Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru: Yūsha no Shō.

The first part will be a six-episode recut of the three Yuki Yuna anime movies that are currently being shown movies that are being shown and the second part will be a direct sequel of the first season. So if you’ve already seen the movies, you’ll have a rough idea of what the first six episodes are going to be like.
