7. Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales

If you’re into some classic Asian horror, then Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales might be the anime for you. The original manga was first based off a really old book, Toukaidou Yotsuya Kaidan by Tsuruya Nanboku and was published way back in 1826. The book was a collection of the most famous ghost stories that were told in Japan over time immemorial so you know this shit is legit.

Unlike most newer horror based anime, it doesn’t resort to gore or violence. The anime takes a more subtle approach to horror. Remember all those old ghost stories or myths you used to tell each other at camp in the middle of the night? That’s the sort of scare you’re going to get with this anime and with animation that look a lot more artistic and straight out of a storybook, it just adds more to that creepy atmosphere you’d want during a Halloween horror anime binge watch.
