2017 has got to be one of the BIGGEST years for movies in recent memory. It’s only May and we’ve already seen movies like Fate of the Furious, Beauty and the Beast, Logan, John Wick 2 and Kung-Fu Yoga Alien: Covenant. One of the questions that I’ve been asked quite a number of times this year is “What’s going to be the highest grossing movie this year?”

That’s a boring question. Because there is absolutely no way in hell that any movie will even come close to beating Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the box office. So, I thought I’ll make it more fun and focus on just the movies releasing in the summer. So, without further ado, here are the Top 5 movies that are going to crush it at the 2017 summer box office.

5. War for the Planet of the Apes

How on earth is this franchise as good as it is? After the abysmal Planet of the Apes starring Mark Wahlberg in 2001, it seemed as though Planet of the Apes would be dead and gone forever. But I guess if you can save Batman from the trenches of Batman & Robin (1997), then anything is possible.

This reboot took the world by storm. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a surprise hit amongst critics (81% on Rotten Tomatoes) and mass audiences alike, making 483 Mil USD worldwide. The second movie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes dodged the “sequel-curse” and received even more favourable reviews (90% on RT) and made more money as well (710 Mil USD).

Now we head into what would most likely be the conclusion of this trilogy. Gun slinging apes on horses with Woody Harrelson as the villain? Shut up and take my money!

Prediction: 800 Mil USD
