Boboiboy the movie main

Just four days after BoBoiBoy: The Movie hit theatres on 3 March, it managed to hit RM3.5 million in box office collections. This is a major feat for a locally animated movie. Not surprising considering that on the first day of the movie’s release, it raked in RM500,000 at the box office and attracted over 30,000 movie-goers.

There’s no denying that this 100-minute animated feature, a first from Animonsta Studios, is highly entertaining and a major success. However as a fan of the series, and as entertaining as I found the movie, there were some things I felt were missing from this 3D animated feature. Here’s five that I found.

Take note, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you might want to skip this feature as there are spoilers aplenty.

1. Yaya’s Biscuits

Gravity manipulation isn’t the extent of Yaya’s powers. Here biscuits pack a mean punch too

Just because the character Tok Aba sold Choki Choki chocolates in his stall on Rintis Island, it didn’t mean that they had to leave out putting in a basket of Yaya’s signature biscuits. Where’s the opportunity for small businesses to be featured when only mainstream brands are the only one shown on-screen? Not to mention the hilarious effects of someone eating one of them

2. Ying’s Sneeze

Every hero has their weaknesses and in the case of BoBoiBoy’s Ying, it’s her sneeze. Although she might have gotten and upgrade, it would have been great if the scriptwriters could have still added in that slight disadvantage, if only as a lesson to viewers that no one is perfect in this world, despite the fact that the heroes had managed to find the sphere of power.

3. The purchasing of a spaceship

I have to admit that one of the funniest scenes in the BoBoiBoy series is whenever the antagonist Adu Du has to purchase spaceships from the second-hand dealer. It would have been great if there was a scene of him doing so in the movie then he would not have needed to thumb a lift on the Tengkotak group’s spaceship. (Then again, I do understand if Adu Du did not get on the Tengkotak group’s ship, he would not have been able to meet Kita Ta).

4. Ejo Jo

For me, the most good looking alien antagonist in the BoBoiBoy series has got to be Ejo Jo. So it was quite disappointing that he did not even appear in the movie at all. Considering his popularity, it would have been nice to have him cameo in. After all, even in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Luke Skywalker still showed up on-screen even if it was for a very brief shot.

5. The full version XPDC’s C.I.N.T.A

Bunkface’s Masih di Sini and d’masiv’s Di Bawah Langit Yang Sama may have been rocking soundtracks for BoBoiBoy: The Movie‘s soundtrack, but for this Gen X-er, it would have been great if I could have heard the full version of XPDC’s C.I.N.T.A in the movie. After all, it does hold a special place in many a Gen-X movie goer’s heart. Then again, I understand that it’s the beginning of the song that has the most impact, and it’s that part that does the most justice when Adu Du sets his eyes on Kita Ta for the first time.

So there you have it, the five things we wished were at least included into the movie. Despite these missing though, BoBoiBoy: The Movie is still an enjoyable watch. So if you have yet to catch it, head over to the cinemas now! Till then, happy viewing.
