Recently, Paramount held a Star Trek Beyond and 50th anniversary event at the Paramount Picture Studios, Los Angeles. Richard Chua, a long time Trekkie was one of the few lucky Malaysians to be invited to the event and he had graciously agreed to feed us what was going on there. So here’s our look at the awesome Star Trek Fan Event and what happened there.
The event which was held at Paramount Pictures Studio, had quite a number of activities. It was hosted by Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame and kicked off with a panel session with producer JJ Abrams and the director, Justin Lin.
Among the things that was discussed during the panel was lawsuit against the Star Trek fan film Axanar. As Justin was a big fan of the Star Trek franchise, he teamed up with JJ Abrams to push the studio into dropping the lawsuit. As a result, the lawsuit is expected to be dropped in the coming weeks.
However what really got the crowd wild was the invite that JJ Abrams extended an invitation to all the attendees for the red carpet premiere of the Star Trek Beyond movie on July 20 at San Diego Comic-Con.
Of course a fan event isn’t complete with at least an appearance by some members of the Enterprise, which was where the next panel came in. The main trio of the Enterprise; Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Karl Urban (Bones) made their appearance, answering questions from the fans.
The final segment of the panel event a quiz was run for the fans where they could walk away with actual movie props from the Star Trek Beyond movie. A lucky fan from China managed to answer a Original Series trivia question and walked away with Jaylah’s staff from the movie.
However, the night had not ended as there were still more surprises for the fans. A tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy was shown as well as the unveiling of the Leonard Nimoy way at along the wall of Stage 32 of Paramount Picture Studios. The attendees were then treated to the brand new Star Trek Beyond trailer as well as exclusive footage to the movie.
Finally the night ended with an after party in Stage 32 itself where there was a showcase of various props from the movie. While we’d love to describe each one-by-one we’d rather show you some of the props in the gallery below.
So there you have it, a quick event report on the Star Trek fan event. Though we did not manage to make our way there ourselves, we really like to thank Richard Chua for providing us these awesome pictures of the event itself.
If you want to have a more in-depth discussion of what happened there, Richard will be holding an “Away Mission Report” this Sunday where he’ll be briefing anyone who is attending about what happened over at the fan event. So if you’re a Trekkie and want more juicy details, just check out the event here.
Till then Live Long and Prosper and enjoy the pictures from the Fan Event in the gallery below.
