mortalkombat movie

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema is looking to revive the Mortal Kombat franchise in the form of another movie, and they’re roped in director James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring, Furious 7) to helm the project.

The project apparently has been rolling along at a snails pace over the last few years. Currently the script is being written by Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series writer Oren Uiel and Dave Callaham, one of the writers behind The Expendables. In terms of actual story, it revolves around a “regular, harmless guy” who realises his potential when he gets caught in the crossfire of an inter-dimensional battle between Earth and the Outworld. Quite similar in vein with most of the Mortal Kombat movies, he must now win the martial arts tournament in order to save the world.

Wan does seem to be a good choice for the franchise, but he currently has his hands full in producing a new Conjuring movie that’s set to land next year and Aquaman, which is due in 2018. No word yet when the Mortal Kombat movie is slated to make its appearance but we can’t wait for it to get over here.
