When, in time, are Captain James T. Kirk and his friends supposed to be? To mark the 50th anniversary of the franchise and the premiere of the new Star Trek Beyond movie, we decided to map it out.
When J.J. Abrams “rebooted” the “old” Star Trek franchise he wisely decided not to discard almost 50 years of established history including the adventures of the iconic Captain Kirk and the original series’ crew and those of The Next Generation, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise.
In a stroke of genius, Abrams used time travel to reboot history, retaining all the old stories and adventures (and fanbase!) while creating a new (nu?) alternate universe where he and his successors had the freedom to create all new worlds, civilisations, and adventures, using the original series crew of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock etc. without having the deal with all the baggage and expectation of those 50 years.
So where does that leave us now?
Alternate’s timelines or not, here’s our timeline of the Star Trek universe, as we currently understand it, or at least until the next time travel event, spacial anomaly, crazed demi-god or warp core breach causes it to change!
