The last time we saw a Dragon Ball Anime TV series was in 1997 when the final episode of Dragon Ball GT was aired. That’s almost two decades ago. Since then it’s been mostly the periodic animated movie releases and that god awful Holywood movie (brrrr).
Well Dragon Ball fans can shout with joy as a new series is headed our way. Called Dragon Ball Super, the story takes place after Majin Buu is defeated and the Earth is once more peaceful. This means instead of continuing after Dragon Ball GT, the story will take place right after Dragon Ball Z.
The best part of this news though is that Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama will be running the show (Woohoo!). It’s not like Toriyama has been quiet on the Dragon Ball front either. He’s still occasionally pushing out manga, expanding and fleshing out the Dragon Ball universe even more, and has personally supervised the recently released Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ animated movie.
Aside from Toriyama’s involvement other crew members have already been identified as well. Kimitoshi Chioka (Hakaba Kitarō, Kamisama Kazoku) will be the series director, while Naoko Sagawa (Yomiko Advertising, Inc.) and Atsushi Kido will be producers.
So when can we expect more “Kamehameha” action? Pretty soon actually as the anime is set to air in July. We’re pretty stoked and hopefully we can catch the trailer to the series pretty soon.
