Anime fans rejoice, as Netflix has started streaming Ajin outside Japan and it is available in English, French, German and Spanish along with the original language.
The anime series first aired in Japan on 15th January and is based on the manga Ajin – Demi-Human by Gamon Sakurai.
What is an “Ajin”? Ajins or Demi-humans are a rare breed of immortals, branded as criminals by the law to ease capture. Once captured, they are treated as mere specimens, as experiments are conducted on them to unlock the secret of their immortality.
The protagonist of the series, Kei Nagai, has just discovered that he is an Ajin after a serious traffic accident. Helped by his best friend, Kaito, he starts life on the run from the authorities.
In addition to the television series, it has also been adapted into an anime film trilogy. The first installment, Ajin: Shōdō aired in November last year while the subsequent film will be released on 6th May and 23rd September respectively.
Producing the animated adaptation of this manga is none other than Polygon Pictures, the studio responsible for Ghost in A Shell 2: Innocence and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Despite the lack of accolades, Ajin has been nominated for the 18th Osamu Tezuka readers choice awards as well as the best seinen category for the 38th Annual Kodansha Manga Awards.
Fans of the manga will be delighted at this recent development, and those who are looking for a new anime series to watch won’t be disappointed. Check it out here
