Falling into line as one of the next live-action adaptations to be released by Disney, Guy Ritchie, director for the reboot confirms that Aladdin will be a musical.
He dropped the info to the Nerdist while talking about the upcoming King Arthur: Legend of the Sword flick, where he stated this:
“It’d be tough not to make [‘Aladdin’] a musical.” The original animated classic was released in 1992 and featured a number of iconic songs, including “A Whole New World” and “Prince Ali.”
No word on who exactly will be starring in the film yet, as they’re still on the hunt for cast members and the movie is still in early development.
Aladdin is based on one of the stories in One Thousand and One Nights, which in turn inspired Disney’s rendition of the classic animated film.
We don’t know exactly when they are planning on releasing the movie, but production is expected to start in July.
