Heads up Star Wars fans!

While we are still waiting impatiently for J.J Abrams’ Episode VII , let’s check out this cool short anime styled rendition TIE Fighter homage.

Animated by Paul “OtaKing” Johnson, who pretty much is the only solo creative crew behind this short film’s animation which included rotoscoping. Music is by Zak Rahman and audio sound effects by Joseph Leyva. He admitted that this video is his personal labour of love and homage to old Lucasart’s 1994 PC game, TIE Fighter. In his own words, he said “match the locations and mechanics of the 1994 Lucasarts Tie Fighter video game“. For example, players would pick up the dreaded missile lock warning sound at 3:12 of the video. That sound is unique to TIE Fighter game only. This short film took him “four years’ worth of weekends“.

You can have a look at how much work went into this, click this link to see the creative process and decisions during the making. Interestingly, the animation is done in anime style of the late 80s and early 90s. Most fans commented that it has the Macross vibe, complete with the Itano Missile Massacre made famous by Macross.

Well, enjoy the short video:
