In a bit of bad news, MOY Publication has ceased its operation on 6 August 2015, which also means the death of two most recognizable Malaysian comic – Apo? and Ujang.

The development was confirmed by the magazine’s own cartoonists in their respective Facebook or Twitter social media accounts with no news or words direct from the MOY Publication themselves. No one really knows what is going on with the company until it was forced to close.

One of their most prominent cartoonists lamented on Twitter:

(Translation) “It is not a rumour anymore, MOY Publication (Publisher of Apo? and Ujang) is confirmed shutting down their operations since yesterday.

Now , their publication is gone from the market. This is unfortunate for future generations because they will never have a chance to read and get to know the very legendary cartoon magazine that used to shook the publication industry long time ago.

What is saddening about this is the fate of creators and cartoonist that used to earn their living through there. Hopefully the situation will improve soon.

Lengkuas, one of the main cartoonist of Ujang confirmed the news on his Facebook page too.

“MOY PUBLICATIONS SDN BHD, PUBLISHER OF UJANG AND APO MAGAZINES IS OFFICIALLY SHUTTING DOWN ITS OPERATIONS IMMEDIATELY ON 6 AUGUST 2015. THANK YOU. ”

Ujang was founded by the cartoonist Ujang or Ibrahim Anon in 1993 under Kharisma Publications then it is taken over by MOY Publications later whereas Apo? was printed for first time in 1998 under the MOY Publications.

This is an abrupt and sad end for the magazine that has been entertaining Malaysians for long time.
