Ash Williams, the cult hero of Evil Dead series is back with vengeance.
In the new Starz series, Ash vs Evil Dead, Bruce Campbell is reprising this role once again, complete with the iconic boomstick. The show reunites the venerable actor with director Sam Raimi (Spartacus series) for a Fall 2015 airing. The story is set 30 years after the last Evil Dead movie where the hero Ash is running/hiding away from all responsibilities – be it normal or supernatural.
Not only the actor is back with his director, even producer Rob Tapert and the iconic 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 car reunited with the gang again. Besides this, showrunner Craig DiGregorio (Reaper) witb cast members like Jill Marie Jones (Sleepy Hollow), Ray Santiago (Touch), Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas), Mimi Rogers (Mad Men) and Lucy Lawless (Xena the Warrior Princess, Spartacus) rounding up the people in the series.
According to Bruce, his role as Ash is slightly different now with the new cast:
“It’s The Searchers with carnage and mayhem. I’m relegated a little bit into the John Wayne mode these days with my team—the young, virile, evil fighters who will pair up with Ash and take on this nemesis: this never ending, ever evolving nemesis.”
So what did the hero do in between the movies and the series timeline? He eleborates:
“Not much! He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his MO. So, he’s not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But…he is. He’s our guy!”
However Ash still has not lost his mojo yet according to Sam Raimi:
“…still a really good monster fighter. So, he’s also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks.”
But the director hinted the whole mess in the series is Ash’s fault again though, “the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits, and he does.”
