Baldur’s Gate developer, Beamdog is teasing that something will happen in the franchise with this countdown on its official site. At the time of this writing, it is T minus 10 days and 17 hours from now. According to the studio, this title’s story takes place in between Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2. It is definitely not a sequel according to them but instead “something bigger than we’ve ever done before.”
Back in January, the studio revealed that they are working on a title codenamed Adventure Y and it will run on the Infinity Engine. In fact, the hints on Adventure Y goes as far back as 2012 when the founder of the studio, Trent Oster said that the game is “intimately linked to the Bhallspawn [sic] storyline“.
Meanwhile, it looks like Icewind Dale II won’t be getting any the Enhanced Edition anytime soon according to Oster. “The move to 3rd Edition rules would invalidate all the character classes and require a pretty thorough rework of the entire game to bring in the features from our Infinity Plus Engine. At minimum, nightmares abound.” he said.
Baldur’s Gate franchise is considered as one of the best computer RPGs ever made and its return will be definitely make lots of people happy.
