What’s better than well detailed, Batman figurine? It’s one made totally made out of metal! That’s the case with this limited edition Batman pewter figurine that’ll be debuting at San Diego Comic Con 2017 (SDCC17), and the best part about it? It’s been designed, sculpted and produced by our very own Malaysian talents!
The figurine is a collaboration by Malaysia’s Royal Selangor and DC Comics and is part of the former’s inaugural collection that spotlights the Dark Knight. The design of this particular figurine is the work of Malaysian Artist Alan Quah, who was commissioned by Royal Selangor to bring our favourite Dark Knight to life. Together with the talents of sculptor Mufizal Mokhtar, this Batman sculpt has been brought to brilliant life.
Alan Quah is the founder of Komikaki Studio and he has worked on projects for Capstone, Heroverse, DC Comics and Titan Comics. Whereas Mufizal Mokhtar is currently the Art Director at Ubisoft Singapore and also founder of HMO Collectibles. And of course, there’s Royal Selangor, Malaysia prided brand and expert in anything pewter related.
This isn’t the first time Royal Selangor has ventured out beyond the comforts of its regular designs as they had also launched a series of Star Wars pewter figurines and merchandise before.
According to the order page on Sideshow collectables, the figurine is based on Jim Lee’s comic style and has the Dark Knight gripping a Batarang while getting ready to swoop down from his gargoyle perch. With the fine detailing of his musculature, suit and cape, this 9-inch pewter figurine is one Batman collectable that would look good on ANY comic book fan’s mantle.
The figurine will be launched at the currently ongoing SDCC17 and only 3000 units have been made available worldwide. The price for it? US$500 from Sideshow or if you want to get it here in Malaysia, RM1,950 from the Royal Selangor website.
