Here’s a bad piece of news for Malaysian Disney fans. It seems that the highly anticipated live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, will NOT be releasing on it’s original 16 March date here in Malaysia. According to Disney, the release date for the movie has been postponed.
When we contacted Disney Malaysia, no specific reason was given on why the release has been postponed. According to the local Disney representative, they are currently reviewing a new release date for the movie here in Malaysia. Previously, a release date for the movie was seen in promos and menus for the various cinema sites, however, they have been recently taken down.
There have been various speculations about why Disney had to postpone the movie, including censorship issues, however, as we mentioned earlier, Disney did not give a specific reason for the delay. Let’s hope, whatever the delay is, we’ll get a definite release date for the movie soon, before this “Tale as old as time” gets REALLY old.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.
