After appearing in both Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice it looks like Ben Affleck won’t be running the show in the next Batman film.
There’s been speculation floating about that he might be dropping the position for a multitude of reasons, but it’s not a stretch to speculate the reason being it’s too exhausting to be both the director and the show’s main star.
Here’s what he has to say about it:
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” said Affleck. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
Warner Bros. is apparently looking out for a replacement for him already, and that list includes Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic) and Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes). No real indication on who they’re picking to fill up Affleck’s boots yet, but we’ll likely be hearing it soon.
