After so much speculation and weeks of digging by fans, Blizzard has finally revealed their latest Overwatch characters, Sombra at BlizzCon 2016.
Since June this year, Blizzard has been teasing Overwatch players through their Alternate reality game (ARG), with bits and pieces of hints about Sombra, like her name, background and more, hidden underneath layers of code.
Sombra has now been revealed to be a stealth hacker offence hero who infiltrates other players’ heroes. Her weapon of choice is a machine pistol and her skillset includes becoming temporarily invisible with a camouflage skill. THat’s not all, her hacking skills can disrupt enemies while her EMP is able to take on multiple enemies at ago. And if that isn’t enough, she’s also able to translocate with the help of a device, which, when combined with her camouflage skill, makes her a pretty difficult opponent to pin down.
An animated short, the sixth made by Blizzard so far, called Inflitration was made to introduce the character and it nicely showcased Sombra’s skillset in the game. It also kind of showed that you never know where Sombra stands, is she good or bad?
Of course, on top of the animated short, there was a gameplay trailer as well that really showcased what players will be able to do with Sombra when they use her. Considering what we’ve seen in the video, she’s pretty powerful and it’ll be interesting to see how she’ll be fully utilised in team games.
So when can Overwatch players get their mitts on Sombra? She’ll be available in the Overwatch Public Test Region (PTR) server for PC players next week, with a final release for primary PC and consoles scheduled for sometime in the near future, though an exact date has yet to be confirmed.
