If you thought that the capes and cloaks you see in Game of Thrones are made from the finest cotton, intricately woven by a 90-year-old tailor with 200 years of experience — y’know what I mean — you thought wrong. 

It is in fact, cheap IKEA rugs. At the Getty Museum last week, Game of Thrones head costume designer Michele Clapton talked about her inspirations in designing the costumes for this series.

She went on to say:

These capes are actually IKEA rugs.

But of course, the rugs weren’t just taken off the shelf and wrapped around Sansa Stark’s shoulders. Check out the video below:
