Known the most for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, Carrie Fisher has passed on due to a massive heart attack.
The news was confirmed by her daughter Billie Lourd, in a statement to People Magazine:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher was in critical care as of Friday night after being removed from the plane following cardiac arrest. The actress is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, but also had quite a carreer outside of that as an actress and author; with uncredited work on a variety of movie scripts. Some of these include Sister Act and The Wedding Singer.
She also made her mark in some video games, including some Star Wars titles and Dishonored. As the reports go, Fisher completed filming for her part in Star Wars Episode VIII so we’ll get to see her in action one last time.
Whatever the case, she has an unforgettable legacy and she will be sorely missed.
