Remember the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi that used to dominate the 2005-2007 anime scene? Especially the ED dance that went viral for a while?

A spinoff series based on the famous anime, The Vanishing of Nagato Yuki-Chan/長門有希ちゃんの消失 Nagato Yuki-chan no Shōshitsu is confirmed with an anime series starting next year. The old cast of Haruhi series is back, notably the controversial Aya Hirano (Lucky Star, Death Note) as Haruhi, Minori Chihara (Saki, Cross Ange), Tomokazu Sugita (Gintama, Terra Formars), Natsuko Kuwatani (Saki: The Nationals, Hamatora), Yuko Goto (Nyanpire, Hidamari Sketch x SP), Yuki Matsuoka (Mirai Nikki, Elfen Lied), Minoru Shiraishi (Lucky Star), Megumi Matsumoto (Rideback) and Daisuke Ono (Noragami, Terra Formars).

This time, however, Kyoto Animation will not be animating the series, but Satelight (Macross Frontier). Takeshi Yasuda (Tokyo ESP) is the storyboard planner with Junichi Wada (Fairy Tail) as the director. Touko Machida (Chaika, Lucky Star) will be the writer and series composition and Ikuko Itoh (Princess Tutu) as the character designer.
The spinoff by Puyo is based on an alternate universe where there is no aliens, ESP and school girl with God-like powers – only a simple, taciturn shy girl named Nagato who is trying to save her dying literature club by recruiting the hero, Kyon. The manga has so far rolled into five tankubon volumes with sixth is coming by the end of this year. It is easily the most popular of all spin offs based on the Haruhi franchise.
Aya Hirano, the star voice actress who made her name in Haruhi series tweeted that the new series will begin in Spring 2015.
