Fans of Ultraman should check out this retro Redman series, now available on YouTube, as the protector takes on rubber suited monsters without remorse.

The 40 metre tall and 30,000-ton protector, Redman takes a more savage to save the Earth, as he routinely executes monsters with various weapons which includes, a knife, arrows and lance. Sometimes, the hero would just drop opponents of a cliff.

The two minute long Tokusatsu series first came out in 1972 as part of the Ohayo! Kodomo Show variety show on NTV. As the short-form format does not allow for much room for storytelling, instead it goes straight to the action, often with hilarious result.

Watching Redman, the audience might notice the similarity between the hero and the more popular Ultraman. This is because the series was also created by Tsuburaya Productions, which is responsible for Ultraman. In fact, all the monsters used in Redman would make an appearance in Ultraman.

If you’re interested in taking a look at the early developments of the genre, check out the series on Tsuburaya Productions’ YouTube channel here.
