Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, American Gangster, Amistad) has been confirmed to be Baron Mordo in the magical Marvel movie, Doctor Strange to star beside Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hobbit).
Baron Mordo is a Transylvanian student of the mystical arts and a constant thorn in the side of Doctor Strange. He is also the killer of his master, the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) and interestingly, a white man in the comics. So this is a major departure since the actor is Afro-American here. However, reports suggesting that his character might be different, in a sense that he won’t necessarily be “completely villainous” but instead he is “an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange’s mythology.”
Doctor Strange is the first major Marvel Entertainment’s foray into magical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so it might be a different and unique cinema experience from the usual explosions and muscles ala The Avengers or Spider-Man.
This is a welcome news for Marvel fans since the actor is considered as one of the best in the business in bringing a convincing portrayal to a character to cinema like Baron Mordo. The movie, scripted by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), is set to be in cinemas on 4 November 2016.
