Christopher Nolan in Akira? Could it be?
According to the rumours, the famous director who made some of the best movies like Dark Knight and Interstellar might be getting involved in the planned trilogy of Akira.
It is alleged that he met Akira’s unnamed director over the past few months months for some unspecified discussions. DiCaprio’s Appian Way is still attached to the production side of the project and Marco J. Ramirez (Daredevil, Orange is New Black, Sons of Anarchy) is still drafting the screenplay for Akira.
Do bear in mind that these are still speculations, as there is no solid confirmation of any sort about this from Warner Bros. or Nolan himself. We don’t even know if he is going to direct the trilogy or will just act as a producer like he did for Man of Steel.
It is however known that Nolan’s next project will come out around July 2017. To give this rumour some credit, Nolan’s brother, Jonathan (Interstellar) had previously worked on the draft of the film before.
The project is having difficulty raising funds and Warner Bros. had shut down the Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop, Orphan) effort last year due to budget concerns. Perhaps with Nolan on board, the funding will flow easier since he has a reputation for being a thrifty director and successful at the same time.
Time will tell.
