Just about twenty years since the original Starship Troopers film hit the screens, we now have an animated sequel to Paul Verhoeven’s original.
The animated feature is called Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars and they’ve managed to pull aboard some of the original cast from the first film too.
We have Casper Van Dien once again as Johnny Rico and Dina Meyer returns as Dizzy Flores. So far only these two returning cast have been revealed, but they will be joined by comedian and actor DeRay Davis. They’ve got Ed Neumeier on board for the script too, and he’s the very same who penned the original Starship Troopers, as well as Robocop.
Here’s a synopsis according to THR:
The movie sees Rico demoted and relocated to a satellite station on Mars, while the Federation moves to attack the home planet of the bugs — but Mars just so happens to be the target of a secret bug attack at the same time, and it falls to Rico and a group of new recruits to keep the planet safe while the Federation’s fleet is far out of reach.
There will also be special theatrical releases for the film as part of the 20th anniversary of the film, with extra bonus content but we don’t know if they will be showing here in Malaysia. The film starts screening 21 August.
Starship Troopers is no stranger to having animated offshoots (as well as comics) so let’s hope this sequel does the franchise justice.
