The Unicorn in action

The title name

The Super Robot Taisen, or rather better known as Super Robot Wars franchise, is releasing its third title for the PS3 called Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Wars Z :Tengoku-hen. The is a PS3 and PS Vita exclusive and will be out in Japan on 2 April 2015.

In case you’re wondering the Super Robot Wars series is a long running, turn-based strategy game that has been around since 1991. And as per its name suggests, it is has lots and lots of robots in it. More specifically various mechas from popular anime titles. For mecha fans, this is THE ultimate mecha crossover porn.

The Z series is particular started of in 2008 on the PS2 and was the first series to be published by the newly formed Bandai Namco imprint. Earlier this year in April, the continuation to that series, Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Wars Z : Jigoku Hen  was released and this upcoming title Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Wars Z : Tengoku Hen,  is the continuation of the series.

Most of the mecha and robots from Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Wars Z : Jigoku Hen will be returning in the new installment but we’ll also be seeing the return of other mechas previously seen in the earlier Z series on the PS2. This includes After War Gundam X, Genesis of Aquarion, Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3, Invincible Super Man Zambot 3, and Turn A Gundam.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Super Robot Wars game without some new mechas thrown in. New titles include Armored Trooper Votoms: Phantom Chapter, Armored Trooper Votoms: Alone Again, Diebuster, Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo, Full Metal Panic (novel version), and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

That’s not all though. Pre-order buyers will receive a special download code for the original story titled Rengoku-hen which is set between Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-hen and Tengoku-hen. This DLC will have 15 unique missions and will feature previous characters and mecha from the Z series. It is unknown if the DLC will be made available for purchase at any point later though.
