Between posters all over town, highly entertaining advertisements, and visits to malls and cinemas, you’d have to be living under a rock not to realise that Deadpool, Marvel comics’ “Merc’ with a mouth”, will finally be gracing cinema screens this February in an R-rated (over 18’s only) action comedy. We’ve put together a guide to some of his best (and worst) moments to get you ready for his second big screen début (see below for more details on that)

While Deadpool has only been around since 1991, a lot less time than many other Marvel heroes, he’s since built up a lot of history, some of it relevant (he’s a product of the same super soldier program as Wolverine), much of it not (at one point Loki cursed him to have the same face as “Thom Cruz”).

If you know nothing about Deadpool there are, thankfully, plenty of standalone comic series that will get you ready for the film, without requiring you to understand a lot of Marvel comics continuity.

For the most part, all you need to know is that Wade Wilson, AKA DeadPoolFaceDeadpool is a mercenary for hire with a healing factor that he acquired as a result of the same Canadian Weapon X program that created Wolverine.  He’s pretty much unkillable and can regrow severed limbs however unlike Wolverine,Wade’s treatment didn’t go quite so well and instead of looking like Hugh Jackman he’s horribly scarred from head to toe and more than a little nuts.

He can, at times, be a scarily efficient killer and while the jury is till out non whether he’s completely mad or not, he regularly talks directly to the reader and refers to the fact that he is in a comic.

With that out of the way let’s get on with our guide.

[All comics mentioned below are available via both the the Comixology  or Marvel unlimited websites and apps.

It’s worth regularly checking both as they commonly have sales tied in with movie releases]
