Deadpool vs. The Presidents of the USA
Deadpool Volume #3 (2013) Issues #1-#6: Dead Presidents
Deadpool frequently flirts with the ludicrous, and the first storyline from 2013’s Volume 3 by Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, is no different, kicking off with the type of job that only Wade Wilson would dare touch. Some idiot has resurrected all the deceased Presidents of the United States of America and they are tearing up the country.
S.H.I.E.L.D. needs this mess cleaned up fast but while they’d rather not tarnish Captain America’s image by having him fight the George Washington in the streets, Deadpool has no reputation to speak of (except one as an annoyance) and is pretty happy with any job, as long as he gets paid.
So begins an adventure that includes the hunt for an incompetent necromancer, soliciting advice from Dr. Strange, fighting Abraham Lincoln in an MMA match and dispatching every other ex-president, all the while assisted by the slightly pervy ghost of Benjamin Franklin’s (who is NOT one of the undead and was never a president).
The ex-presidents provide Deadpool with both a formidable foe to go up against and plenty of opportunities for humour, as does his new cast of S.H.I.E.L.D. comrades and the slightly cartoony yet ghoulish art style by Tony Moore.
