Death Billiards debuted as a one shot anime under the aegis of Anime Mirai 2013and was produced by Madhouse Studio. Now it has been given the green light to proceed as a full blown anime series in 2015. In case you’re wondering, Anime Mirai is a yearly project that attempts to showcase the newest talent in the Japanese animation industry and to gauge the reaction to the works that have been featured. To date, only Death Billiards has managed to get a full anime run and will be retitled as Death Parade.
Yuzuru Tachikawa will be directing and scripting the series and it’s set to run on NTV. A cast for the series has also been revealed and they are Tomoaki Maeno (Akatsuki no Yona, Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live) as the bartender, Asami Seto (Tari Tari, Valvrave the Liberator) as the resident woman, Yūichi Nakamura (Clannad, World Trigger) as a man, and Jun Hazumi (The Flying House, Kemonozume) as the elderly dude.
The original basis of the story is about a game of high stakes billiards between a two people, a young man and an elderly man at a mysterious bar. The game loser of the game however, might lose more than their money, and it is hinted that they might even lose their life. How much shall be expanded on the original premise is yet to be known as is the proposed release date for the anime.
