Earlier, Hideo Kojima hinted that his upcoming video game Death Stranding will have online elements, but there’s now a few extra details about the game.

For starters, he’s hinted that the game will be out in 2018, specifically by saying that “there is a movie called Akira, and it will be out before the year in which Akira is set”. Akira is set in 2019, which puts the game’s release in two years time.

Kojima also stated that while the game will have online elements, it will be fully playable in single player; with a female protagonist. Said protagonist has yet to be cast but we’re assuming that there will be more than one character to choose from.

Death Stranding is already starring Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) who previously collaborated with Kojima’s canceled Silent Hills project.

Yoji Shinkawa, character and mechanical designer for the Metal Gear Solid series is also working alongside Kojima on Death Stranding and he’s hinted that he wants to see mechs in the game. It isn’t solid evidence that there WILL be mechs in the game but we’re already expecting some interesting sci-fi stuff to make their appearance.

You can watch the stream below if you want to catch Kojima’s full presentation (skip to 41.26) no English subtitles though.

Reedus previously collaborated with Kojima on the cancelled Silent Hills project. Like Death Stranding, Silent Hills’ “P.T.” playable teaser featured a 3D CG model based on Reedus.
