I just caught Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes earlier today. The review will be out soon. But I can say this: Get your money ready because when this film hits cinemas next Thursday, YOU HAVE TO CATCH IT!! Matt Reeves is a damn good director and him signing on to direct The Batman is the best thing to happen to DCEU since Patty Jenkins signed on a couple of years ago to direct Wonder Woman

A week or two ago, Matt Reeves discussed the direction the The Batman film might take, claiming that he would love to direct a noir style Batman film. This week, in an interview with Fandango, Reeves was asked if he had thought of making a trilogy for his take on The Batman.

I have ideas about an arc, but really, the important thing is just to start… you have to start with one. You know, you have to start with a story that begins something. And I would be lying if I could tell you that the arcs of Apes was already planned out, because it simply wasn’t. It’s one of those things where that character was so potent, and the possibility was embedded from the beginning, but exactly how you’ve got from A to Z is not something that existed.

You should never put your universe before your characters and story. Something most studios don’t seem to give a sh*t about these days. Which is why movies like The Mummy and DCEU’s own Batman V Superman turned out to be disappointing affairs. Matt Reeves has the right idea, though. While it would be great to see another Batman trilogy, it is essential that Reeves and everyone involved focused on one movie first. If the first DCEU solo Batman movie turns out to be GREAT and also a box office success, then Reeves and gang can start thinking more in depth about a trilogy.

The Batman will hit cinemas God knows when. But possibly 2019.
