Deadpool director Tim Miller is leaving the Deadpool 2 movie project due to a series of creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.
The report was confirmed by Variety, and the director hasn’t signed a formal deal for the Deadpool sequel, but was getting things moving along for the movie’s 2018 planned release. The main reason for him leaving is that Miller wanted the second film to be more stylised, while Reynolds (who happens to be a producer for both films) wanted to keep the fourth-wall breaking comedy approach that made the first film a success.
They also allegedly butted heads over the casting of Kyle Chandler as Cable, where Miller wanted him for the part but Reynolds didn’t agree. The studio ended up siding with Reynolds partially because his renegotiated contract includes casting approval.
However, the director’s exit was amicable, and he will be heading to another Fox project Influx, based on the Daniel Suarez novel. What does this mean for Deadpool 2? we don’t know, but we’ll be sure to let you know of any new developments.
