Disney has officially axed their Jack and the Beanstalk adaptation Gigantic following a handful of “creative hurdles”.

The project was initially revealed in 2015 during Disney’s D23 fan convention, and the plot would have Jack meet a female giant.

Speaking on the matter, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios president Ed Catmull said  “It’s impossible to know when we begin a project how the creative process will unfold, and sometimes, no matter how much we love an idea or how much heart goes into it, we find that it just isn’t working.”

Now that Gigantic is no longer being developed, Disney will be moving on to a different project to fill the 2020 release window that was previously occupied by Gigantic.

We don’t know what the new project is going to be yet, but the next Disney animated feature set to be released is Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph, which is due 21 November 2018.
