Bak Kut Teh is a firm favourite of any Malaysian (and Singaporean) when it comes to non-halal soupy goodness. There hasn’t been much change to the dish over the years (regional differences don’t count) though we’ve seen dry versions gain popularity over the last few years. Now, however, your favourite herbal pork soup might be getting a bit of a makeover from this particular restaurant.

There’s a small stall over in Setapak called B.A.J Restaraunt that has come up with a new twist to our well-loved Bak Kut Teh dish, and that’s by adding cheese to it. Yes, you read that right, cheese.

The stall is located above the Setapak wet market and serves a variety of other foods including the aforementioned cheese Bak Kut Teh. If you’re wondering just what it looks like, B.A.J doesn’t just dump the cheese into a soup based Bak Kut Teh concoction. Instead, they utilise the oft-popular dry Bak Kut Teh style and adds in melty cheese into the slightly spicy mixture.

That’s a bit better as we just can’t imagine if they actually added in cheese to the soupy version. Can you imagine just how it’ll taste like? With the dry version though, it isn’t such a far stretch as the dish does turn out looking like something you’d actually eat and maybe a tad bit Mexican (think taco or burrito fillings).

The cheese infused Bak Kut Teh isn’t the only dish B.A.J serves either as there’s regular Bak Kut Teh, and many other western and local fare like, Steamed fish, cheese chicken chop, pastas etc.
