While the first issue of Empress just made its debut in April and the second issue will be coming out today, Mark Millar already has the film adaptation lined up for the comic.
The announcement of the Empress adaptation is a testament to his expanding media empire. Just last week, the comic book creator revealed the acquisition of film option rights to his other titles, American Jesus and Supercrooks to Waypoint Entertainment.
For the upcoming adaptation, Millar will be collaborating with producers, Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum to bring the comic to the silver screen. Joining the two is F. Scott Frazier, who wrote the script for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, he will be crafting the script for the adaptation.
Although the film is still in its early stages, Mark Millar has already hinted of its arrival since early April. It appears that the role of the Empress has been filled as he teased a picture of the actress, on his Twitter account.
Empress is co-created and illustrated by Stuart Immonen, tells the story of Queen Emporia, who is on the run from her galactic dictator husband, with her kids and bodyguard in tow. All she has to do now evade capture from her evil husband and get back to her home world with her teenage daughter, Aine, who wants to be with her father, the gentle 10-year old Adam and 18-month old, Puck.
Empress reunites Millar with Kirschenbaum, who was involved in adapting Millar’s, Wanted into action movie success featuring Angelina Jolie.
Stay tuned for more information on the adaptation.
