Update (1 June 2015): The fund raising campaign finally ended on 1800 (Japanese time) 29 May 2015 and it obtained an impressive pledge of 36,224,000 Yen (about US$ 291,870) from 3,374 supporters, which was an amazing 181 percent of its initial goal.

The crowdfunding campaign for the anime movie Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni/この世界の片隅に (In This Corner of the World) is still going strong despite having already breached its goal of 20 million Yen (US$164,600) on 18 March 2015. Based on award winning manga by Fuimyo Kouno, right now the pledge collected is around astounding 30 million Yen (US$246,900) from 2768 supporters which is around 150 percent of the original goal.

The funding campaign will end on 28 May 2015 and the movie is planned for release in 2016.

The tragic family drama is set in World War II, where a family lived in Kure-city, Hiroshima Prefecture around the same time when a B-29 deployed atomic bomb in first nuclear attack in human history. The manga ran in Weekly Manga Action from 2007 to 2009. The manga is praised as “folk-like tale” tone and the mangaka’s humour is notable.

The scribe and director will be Sunao Katabuchi (Black Lagoon, Mai Mai Miracle), production studio MAPPA (Zankyo no Terror, Punchline) will be animating the movie while GENCO (Nodame Cantabile, Sword Art Online) will be producing the whole project. No information regarding as to who will be the voice acting yet.
