PSO2 animation

SEGA recently announced in an event in Okinawa last weekend that in commemoration of the Phantasy Star Online franchise’s 15 anniversary they are making an anime adaptation for the game. They have even opened up a dedicated site for the animation.

The Phantasy Star universe is one of SEGA’s more well known IPs, with the franchise having spawned two MMORPGs, a PlayStation Vita release as well as and Android and iOS release for mobile. This is on top of the countless other standalone games and expansions they have released across the PC and PlayStation platforms.

The game has also inspired a stage play that took place last December in Japan.

As of yet they haven’t released any more information besides the potential year of release, but they did mention that Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation Series (yes, that’s what they’re calling it) will have a completely original story that would take place on Earth in the near future. That means no revisiting Ragol (the planet we were tied to in the first Phantasy Star Online) but it is likely that the story would involve the ARKS fleet in some way or other.

An origin story on how everyone ended up homeless and in space perhaps? We hope they’ll drop some details soon because we’re dying to know.
