One of the Star Wars spinoffs is taking shape, with the possible villain being Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) and another lead character being portrayed by Diego Luna (Contraband, Elysium) who will play as a rebel in Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) directed Star Wars: Rogue One. One of the confirmed stars is Felicity Jones as a leading Rebel fighter and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) will appear in the movie too after much speculation. Another unconfirmed rumour is that Sam Calflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) might join the crew but there is nothing concrete on this one yet.

The story is set between Episode III and IV where the rebel faction is trying to suss out the plans for the Death Star which culminated in a costly but successful heist. Some sources describe it as a war thriller with no Jedi-type characters unbalancing the story.

For an idea on what Rogue One might be like, the director brought in music composer Alexandre Desplat (Godzilla) and cinematographer of Zero Dark Thirty, Greig Fraser. The latter is noted for documentary style of camera works so it is possible the movie will be shot in a “journalist embedded in combat unit” narrative.

The movie is gearing up for shooting in London this summer and to be in the cinemas on 16 December 2016.
