A whopping sixteen movie stills are out for December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in a special preview. Images after the jump!
Despite the movie being somewhat of a prequel, we have here a deadlier batch of commando stormies called Deathtroopers; who are tasked with hunting down and destroying the Rebel uprising. Their armor is a far cry from the white Stormtrooper armor we all know and love, and are oddly reflective like Captain Phasma’s gear.
Here we see Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) undercover for the Rebellion, being recruited to infiltrate the Empire and steal the details about the Death Star. We recognise these Imperial style corridors all too well so we needn’t need to guess where she probably is.
Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) is in charge of keeping the information of the Death Star Project out of the wrong hands; but he himself is a manipulator within the Empire, not above bending a few things to get what he wants. What is it with bad guys and capes anyway?
Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) and Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) take a break as the blind warrior monk and his protector catch a breath after a fight.
Like many planets in the Star Wars universe, Rogue One is set on a world that has only one ecosystem; this one being mostly beach and water.
The name of the planet has yet to be revealed; but the imagery does invoke a bit of World War II with those Stormtroopers wading through the waters.
More stills of Deathtroopers, this one seemingly holding a doll or action figure of a Stormtrooper; possibly dropped by a child. The toy apparently has some significance, one that we’re quite curious about.
This is K-2SO, the latest droid to come to the Star Wars family. Je’s a security robot (pronounced Kaytoo Esso) who is voiced and performed by Alan Tudyk (Firefly) via motion capture. To us he looks like a grey hybrid of C-3PO and a Federation droid to be honest.
Here’s a shot from the set for their Yavin-4 base with most of the main actors. The Rebel team is a deliberately diverse mix of races as well as aliens.
Bodhi Rook is Riz Ahmed who co-stars as the Rebel squad’s lead pilot. He’s described as surly but very experienced, albeit a bit tense and volatile at times.
We’ve seen plenty of father/son stories in the previous Star Wars movies but this one will be a tale of father and daughter. Jyn’s mission is a personal one, while her father Galen is a scientist whose knowledge is wanted by both the Rebellion and the Empire.
Captain Cassian Andor is Diego Luna, who may be a quiet type but ultimately is the one who anchors Jyn, who is a loose cannon. He’s got a lot of combat experience and is an intelligence officer for the Rebels, but he seems to be weighed down by the burdens that comes with it.
Believing in the Force, though not sensitive to it, Donnie Yen is Chirrut Imwe, a blind monk who joins the fight.
Only here out of devotion to his blind, trouble-finding friend, Baze doesn’t believe in the Force but he believes in Chirrut.
