Bethesda announced during E3 2016 that they were working on a VR version of Fallout 4, and they went quiet for awhile, but apparently the project is still going strong!
Glixel recently asked Bethesda producer Todd Howard about the Fallout 4 VR project and they were informed that it’s going swimmingly:
“Fallout is going great. There’s a lot of work to be done, but it’s super exciting. We are doing the whole game. You can play it start to finish right now, and the whole thing really works in terms of interface and everything.”
Of course, there’s the issues involving how you’ll be getting around the interface in VR, but they’re pretty excited about how VATS and your Pip-Boy would work in VR:
“I will say that Fallout works because of the interface. The Pip-Boy is on your wrist and we’ve been able to present so that it works the way you expect. You look and there it is. The fact that the gunplay is a bit slower than in a lot of games has certainly helped us but we have VATS, so you can pause or slow down the world. I assure you, VATS in VR is awesome. We love it.”
We still have no idea how exactly you would traverse the game’s massive environment, but at least it will be immersive.
Don’t get us wrong, we love the Fallout franchise but here’s hoping that Fallout 4 in VR isn’t a completely nauseating experience.
