Supermassive Games have started showing off gameplay videos of Until Dawn, a single player adventure horror exclusive to the PS4. The game is supposed to be on the PS3 and feature PlayStation Move support, but abruptly, Sony Computer Entertainment decided to axe it in August 2014. The game makers promised a “more mature, darker and fundamentally more terrifying experience on PS4.” The game utilizes a modified version of Killzone Shadow Fall engine for its presentation and graphics.
The plot is pretty straightforward, the story follows a group of eight teenagers who spend a night in a log cabin at Blackwood Pines to commemorate the death of their common friend. However, they are not aware that a crazed serial killer is stalking them.
You will get to play all eight characters as they try to survive the killer’s rampage at the isolated cabin. In order to make it more cinematic, the game camera will alternate between first person and third person perspectives. Any decisions the player made during the game will affect the ending later too.
The story is written by indie horror genre experts Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick (Stake Land, Habit, The Last Winter). The cast includes Hayden Panettiere (Golden Globe-nominee from Heroes and Nashville), Rami Malek (Night at the Museum, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, Need for Speed) and Brett Dalton (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
The game is scheduled for a Summer 2015 release on Blu-Ray or download. Meanwhile, enjoy the gameplay demo here.
