In a blatant recognition that female soccer is gaining more and more prestige these days, EA Sports has finally decided to feature several famous female soccer stars on the cover, sharing space with the Argentinian soccer legend Lionel Messi.
In the US, they featured ace striker Alex Morgan while in Canada it will be Christine Sinclair, captain of the national team and finally for the Australian market it will be defender Stephanie Catley. The later is voted by the public, chosen from a list of female players. This is great considering FIFA tended to be a video game featuring only male teams, so this is an extremely progressive step for the company.
Besides this, for first time in the franchise history, we get to play female teams in FIFA series. twelve women teams are available in the roster, ready to rock the field. Alex Morgan is noticeably excited about this, “It is an incredible honor to be one of the first women featured on the cover of EA Sports’ FIFA. I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer. And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”
FIFA 16 is set to kickoff on 22 September 2015 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC.
